Introduction.
The main caretakers are the beginning and the continuity of the assistance of community professionals in the sanitary and social levels. The situations which imply an immediate life risk are frequent. The simple application of easy to learn Basic Life Support measures can make the difference between life and death. Over three years 10 Basic Life Support workshops have been held in the ten districts of Malaga city, assessing participation and effectiveness of the results.
Methodology.
The training course is designed for groups of 20-30 students and a duration of 10 hours. The contents of the course: - Theoretical module: information about the causes of life risk and application of Basic Life Support techniques. - Practice module: examples explained on mannequins / dolls / dummies - Assessment of the contents of the course through pre-test and post-test.
Results.
680 students attended the course (80% female) with ages from 26 to 56. The initial level of knowledge showed a 26% of the maximum score, whereas it reached 75% after the course.
Conclusions.
Warning the emergency system in an early stage and the right procedure applied by a common citizen will favour the work of the sanitary services, decreasing the chance of possible sequelae. That is the reason why these courses are recommended, since an increase of important knowledge is obtained.
