A high prevalence of anaemia in all age groups were found. Children had the highest prevalence of anaemia. Iron replacement therapy was successful in most of the cases, resulting in suspicious of iron deficiency anaemia as the major cause of that clinical manifestation in the studied people.

The high prevalence of anaemia in the subjects of this research can cause a great impact on the quality of life, leading to symptoms such as weakness, tiredness, indisposition to daily activities, growth delay and cognitive difficulty. Based on this research, it is possible to develop strategies in order to prevent that finding and therefore improve considerably the health status of this population.
