Former Special Projects:

  • 2011: "EURIPA Out of Hours Project for Europe" submitted by European Rural and Isolated Practitioners Association (EURIPA)

This proposal aims to expand the evidence base and increase our understanding of the type of out of hours work that rural family doctors undertake and to analyse the implications of this information in terms of education and training needs.

For the Anniversary Fund, WONCA Europe Executive has choosen a project about Chronic Care:

  • “Chronic Condition Patient Self-management in General Practice” submitted by EQuiP in collaboration with the Irish College of General Practitioners, the Institute of General Practice, University of Jena, Germany and Duodecim, Finnish Medical Society.

The project addresses Self-management which is seen by the WHO as important in the care of patients with chronic conditions, and recently was added to the New Definition of General Practice/Family Medicine. Good self-management will improve the patient-doctor relationship and the outcome of the provided health care.

Collaborative projects:

  • "Assessing the Over The Counter medications in Primary Care and translating the theory of Planned Behaviour into interventions" (OTC SOCIOMED/2009-2012), funded by the 7th Framework Programme (FP7-HEALTH-2007-B)

The project has produced a set of recommendations based on the implementation of the two theories, which aims to transfer the knowledge gained throughout the project into everyday clinical and pharmaceutical practice and introduce key and missing issues in the agenda of policy makers.

  • The HAPPY AUDIT project funded by the European Commission under the FP6 framework with the involvement of WONCA Europe, was successfully completed in September 2010 (
